When Lilly & Lime was re-born, we had a choice...
We could return the same as before, making moderate, common sense choices to be more sustainable, or...
We could come back doing everything we could for our planet.
It put us back 6 months, placed a financial burden on the business when money is most limited (before we sold a thing!), and created a lot more work...
but in the end, we are proud of what has been accomplished and the long term impact Lilly & Lime will have (or rather, not have) on the planet.
Here is what we have done (last updated June 25th, 2023)
Conscious Product Selection: We prioritized offering eco-friendly and sustainable products. This can include items made from recycled materials, organic and fair-trade products, and goods that have been certified by recognized sustainability standards. By curating a conscious product selection, the brand can enable customers to make sustainable choices easily.
Ethical Sourcing and Fair Trade: Supporting fair trade practices and ethical sourcing is crucial. The brand can prioritize working with suppliers that provide fair wages and safe working conditions for their employees. By supporting responsible labor practices, the brand helps promote social sustainability and contributes to the well-being of workers.
Product Lifecycle Management: Encouraging customers to make sustainable choices is vital. The brand can promote the longevity of products by offering high-quality and durable items. Implementing take-back or recycling programs for products at the end of their lifecycle can also help minimize waste and promote a circular economy.
Consumer Education: Educating customers about sustainable practices and the environmental impact of their choices is crucial. The brand can provide information on its website, through social media channels, or even include educational materials with product purchases. This empowers customers to make informed decisions and encourages them to adopt sustainable habits beyond their purchases.
Measurement and Transparency: Lastly, the brand should measure and report its sustainability efforts transparently. This includes tracking and disclosing its environmental footprint, progress towards goals, and any initiatives undertaken. Transparency fosters trust among customers and stakeholders and allows for accountability and continuous improvement.
